Israel and New Mexico, USA – eyeSight Mobile Technologies, Ltd. and TriLumina Corp. announced today that they have received grant funding from the US-Israel Bi-national Industrial Research & Development (BIRD) Foundation to develop a Smart Illumination Gesture Control System. The grant funds the development of an integrated system utilizing eyeSight’s industry leading gesture recognition solutions and TriLumina’s revolutionary smart laser illumination technologies to considerably enhance gesture control capabilities on mobiles, computers, televisions and other devices. TriLumina will integrate its arrayed IR illumination solution while eyeSight will develop an integrated smart system to control environmental illumination.
“The BIRD Foundation identifies promising new technologies with significant market potential and encourages collaboration between Israeli and American companies that can develop and bring those technologies to market.” said Eitan Yudilevich, Ph.D., executive director of the BIRD Foundation. “Consumers interact with their devices and environment on an increasing basis every day. eyeSight and TriLumina are combining their outstanding Israeli and U.S. human resources and technologies to develop an entirely new way of enhancing gesture recognition technology to expand the utility of mobile devices and other machines at home, on the road and at work.”
Under the grant, TriLumina will leverage its smart IR laser illumination technology with eyeSight’s industry leading image processing technology to implement an integrated solution to enhance gesture recognition and image processing in dark and low light environments. No other integrated solution is available, particularly at the size and power efficiencies offered.
Gideon Shmuel, CEO of eyeSight, commented on the BIRD Foundation project, “The collaboration between eyeSight and TriLumina will make possible the most power efficient Natural User Interface solution that works just as well in dark rooms as it does under direct sun light. This innovation will fill a significant void in these evolving and fast growing markets for gesture control, sensing and machine vision.”
Kirk Otis, CEO of TriLumina, also commented, “TriLumina appreciates the BIRD Foundation’s vision and support of innovative and new technologies. We are extremely pleased to be working with eyeSight, the leader in perceptive interaction with mobile devices and one of Israel’s top innovators. The unique solution being developed with eyeSight expands the natural and perceptive interaction with laptops, tablets, televisions and mobile devices providing a better user experience and an innovative differentiator for OEMs in this rapidly changing market.”
